Entre los exiliados había líderes republicanos, personas desconocidas e intelectuales. Esta emigración forzada supuso una enorme pérdida humana y cultural para el país.

Tambien se suprimieron los derechos y libertades individuales y se rechazó toda manifestación nacionalista,por la que se abolieron los estatutos de autonomía de Cataluña y el Pais Vasco.
